I woke up this morning to find myself personally invited to the Hulu beta.
I tried to watch a couple of shows, but I have to admit that I’m incredibly underwhelmed by the video quality. The stream is maybe 320×240, and even at that its blocky.
When I tried full screen, it looked horrible.
The video selection is pretty good. I just can’t bring myself to watch any of the shows, the quality is so bad.
On top of it all, of course you’re relegated to watching the shows on your monitor. There’s no way (yet) to stream the shows to your TV.
For now, stick to joox and The Pirate Bay. At least you’ll get decent video quality.

Hi Roopesh, can you tell me what specific Hulu.com videos you were watching that had poor quality? We encode our videos at 640×360 and 700kbps so I want to make sure there isn’t a problem on our servers mistakenly sending you a degraded video stream.
Thanks,
Eric
Eric,
I stand corrected. The video is 640×360. Given todays bigger monitors and higher resolutions (I have a 21″ 1680×1050) this look absolutely tiny on the screen. And when I go try to go full screen, it gets real pixelated, real quick.
Thanks for quick follow-up!
Thanks Roopesh for your reply. We are continuously working to improve the video viewing experience at Hulu and will certainly take your feedback to heart.
Thanks again for trying out the site and please feel free to contact us anytime should you have any additional questions or comments.
